Governor Sets 6th Special Election of Year

More articles »

Governor Kim Reynolds has set the special election for House District 6 for Tuesday, January 16, 2018.  Jim Carlin, who had represented this Woodbury County district for a year, was elected to the Iowa Senate in a recent special election.

The Democratic, Libertarian, and Republican Parties will select their candidates in the next two weeks.  If you normally vote by mail, you might want to consider other early voting options because of the holidays and the very tight timeline.  For instance, the candidate filing deadline is January 2, but the "worry free postmark date" for mailed ballots is January 1.  Voter pre-registration deadline is January 5, which is also the absentee ballot request deadline.

If you live in this district and want to know about your options for voting, have questions, or want to check to make sure you are registerd, contact the Woodbury County Auditor (Pat Gill):

  • Phone: (712) 279-6465
  • In Person at the Woodbury County Courthouse (M-F: 8-4:30): 620 Douglas Street, Room 103, Sioux City 51101
